The symptoms of heart palpitation can include factors like:
- Heartbeats that pump blood more vigorously than normal
- Heartbeats that go extremely fast
- Fluttering heartbeats
- Skipped heartbeats
For most people with heart palpitations, they experience this sensation mainly in the chest. Some people, however, may feel their heart palpitation sensations not only in their chest but in their neck and/or throat as well. You can experience heart palpitations when you’re active or even when you’re at rest. You may also be able to feel them when you’re lying down, seated or standing.
The time to see a doctor is when your palpitations become frequent and last for days. Infrequent palpitations and those that last for only a few seconds often usually do not need any doctor examination. For people with a history of frequent palpitations or heart disease, an appointment with their doctor is highly suggested if they are experiencing heart palpitations. Your doctor may deem it necessary for you to undergo heart-monitoring tests to see if your palpitations are due to a more grave heart condition. You need to avail of emergency medical attention if your heart palpitations come with:
- Serious dizziness
- Serious shortness of breath
- Fainting
- Chest pain or discomfort
